Lois B. Sculco, 75, a longtime resident of Washington Street in Norwich died on Thursday, February 16, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late David and Sylvia (Gottfried) Green of Philadelphia, PA and the wife of the late Dr. Mario J. Sculco. Lois was well known in the community, having worked with her husband managing his Neurosurgical practice. She was, however, first and foremost a wife, mother, and Grandmother.

Lois and Mario first met in Boston while she was a graduate student at Harvard and Mario was a medical student at Boston University. They were married in 1959 in Boston. They lived briefly in Montreal, Canada before finally settling in Norwich in 1967. Lois’s love of opera was a passion that she shared with her husband and after his death she became an active board member of the Connecticut Lyric Opera Company, where she made many dear friends. A Radcliffe girl, she was a thinker and philosopher who enjoyed tackling the challenges of everyday life with rigor and thoughtfulness.

Lois will forever be remembered as a strong woman, a true friend, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Lois is survived by her three children, Thomas W. Sculco and his wife Carolyn of Winter Park Florida and their daughters Sarah and Tricia, Susannah Ullrich and her husband Stefan, of Frankfurt Germany and their children Lisa and Arthur, and Arthur Sculco of Norwich. Her burial was private.
