Greve Summer Opera Academy

After three successful summer programs in-state, Connecticut Lyric Opera and Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra are pleased to announce the inaugural season of their joint summer program in Italy, the Greve Summer Opera Academy.

CLO and the CT Virtuosi will be in residence in Greve-in-Chianti during June 2015 to perform professional productions of La Boheme and Il Barbiere di Siviglia, leading to this innovative program that allows young singers to perform alongside the celebrated faculty as covers and/or chorus members in these professional productions and to star in their own student performances.

A unique three week program designed for emerging professional artists and university level singers, the Greve Summer Opera Academy provides participants the opportunity to perform leading roles in two fully staged productions with orchestra. Instruction in Italian language and diction, professional development (auditioning, wellness, marketing and networking), acting and stagecraft are the primary courses of study, but living and learning in the heart of Tuscany provides its own rewarding experience with trips to take in the culture and history of nearby Florence and the famous Palio race in Siena among the planned excursions on rest days.

The Academy is part of the newly created International Opera and Music Festival in Greve-in-Chianti, which will include professional and student performances of opera and chamber music throughout the Chianti region. An international vocal competition is also part of the program with prizes including a contract to perform with CLO and The Virtuosi in 2015/16.
