Amanda Kohl, lyric soprano, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School of Music and a Master’s of Music degree from Indiana University. As a graduate student Ms. Kohl studied with soprano Carol Vaness and performed Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, also singing the role of Diana under the direction of William Bolcolm in his collegiate premier of A Wedding. While finishing her Artist Diploma at The Hartt School of Music she gave a 2nd performance of Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the new Music ensemble Foot in the Door.
Being a strong advocate for new music, she has premiered several works including commissions by ASCAP and the Society for Composers, Inc. In 2012 Ms. Kohl was featured on the ‘Parma’ record label with renowned violinist Joseph Lin, in Wing Over Wing by award winning composer Eric Nathan, followed by Vox dilecti mei, by Katherine Saxon, to be released in late 2013.
Along with her various classical engagements, Ms. Kohl recently began to cross over into musical theater, having appeared as “Eliza” in My Fair Lady, with West Hartford Theatre. In January 2013, she traveled to Italy to perform Broadway in Ravello, a series of broadway reviews on the Almafi Coast and was recently featured in Symphonic Sondheim, with the HSO, conducted by Tim Stella this past November. Being an active recitalist, Amanda will be featured in various music series with her Voice and Piano Duo, ‘re Vera’ throughout 2013 and 2014. In addition to maintaining a thriving voice studio in the greater Hartford area, Ms. Kohl was appointed to the Adjunct Faculty at Connecticut College and will be appearing as a guest clinician at various schools in New England for students of all ages. She was the musical director for Suessical at Kinsella Magnet School for the Performing Arts in Hartford, CT and recently, began teaching in New York at the Performers Career Center. Ms. Kohl has worked with clinicians such as Deborah Birnbaum, Peter Kazaras, Warren Jones, Ellen Rissinger, Claude Corbeil, Kyle Swan, Eric Trudel and is currently a student of Joanna Levy.
