Future Arts Leaders of Connecticut (FALConn) is a mentorship initiative designed for high school juniors and seniors passionate about the arts. This unique program provides students with the invaluable opportunity to shadow professionals behind the scenes and fully engage in the dynamic environment of an established opera company.
FALConn participants will discuss and delve into diverse facets of the Opera and Performance Art business world, acquiring practical knowledge through hands-on experiences, engaging in special projects, embarking on field trips, and benefiting from insightful guest lectures. Beyond academic enrichment, the initiative empowers students with leadership skills crucial for success in artistic careers.
Goals and Objectives for FALConn Program
Completing the year-long FALConn shadowing program is an effective way for high school juniors and seniors to gain a general introduction to what they can expect from the world of opera and theater.
FALConn will enable the student-intern participants to:
- Explore different professions within opera and stage productions
- Begin to develop a professional network
- Potentially forge a mentor-mentee relationship
- Gain an understanding of real trade skills from professional performers
- Learn from variety of guest speakers present on their knowledge and experiences
- Develop observations about professionalism and communications within the performing arts scene
- Enhance their college applications and resumes with real experience
- Learn technical skills and industry jargon
- Opportunity to practice communicating effectively with others in the professional setting
