Fully staged opera production with the CT Virtuosi Orchestra
East and West collide with tragic results in Puccini’s opera about a trusting Japanese bride and the callous American naval officer who weds and abandons her. Highlights including Butterfly’s aria “Un bel dì,” the Flower Duet, and the famous Humming Chorus emerge from a sumptuous score which goes straight for the emotional jugular and seldom fails to reduce even the hardest hearts to tears.
Connecticut Lyric Opera concludes its acclaimed 2013-2014 season with a new production featuring an international cast of singers, the Connecticut Virtuosi Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Adrian Sylveen, stage direction by Antoni Sadlak Jaworski, and full sets and costumes. Sung in Italian with projected English supertitles.
